1. How long have you been in the program and what SAE projects have you been involved in?

  •     I have been in the Ag program for four years now. I have been involved in many SAE projects such as raising two steers and six pigs. People ask me what was my favorite project is and I always say I loved them all equally but in all honesty my favorite was my pig from 2022-2023 named Nugget. He was the cutest and most interesting pig I’ve had so far.

2. Why did you choose to join the La Habra FFA chapter your Freshman year?

  • It's actually very funny, but I didn't choose this program. My mother signed me up for the Agriculture program, because she wanted me to raise an animal for her but as they say mothers know best! Now look at me. This is my 4th years in the program, in the president's position, my second year as an officer, and having raised so many animals! I can definitely thank my mom for choosing this  program because I have found a second home!

3. What does the blue corduroy FFA jacket mean to you?

  • The blue corduroy FFA jacket means to me the power it has with knowing your part of something bigger than you, something that came before you and will continue after you pass.

4. In your opinion, what makes an individual a good leader?

  •  In my opinion, a good leader consists of listening, opening, and growing and above all trusting those around you to grow with you.

5. What is your favorite quote and how does it relate to you in your leadership role?

  • My favorite quote is from a book called Flowers on The Moon, “Your journey will be misunderstood by many at times, your journey won't even make sense to yourself, but trust it nonetheless trust the turns and blocks, the stops and drops. Trust that the journey is shaping out the way it's supposed to”. This quote has forever changed the way I look at life. I will use this quote during my presidential year and take what comes my way with an open mind and open heart because everything is supposed to happen for a reason even if you don't know why.

1. How long have you been in the program and what SAE projects have you been involved in ?

  •  I have been in the program for two years now. My SAE projects have all been livestock animals. My first year in the program, I had a market goat. This year I have had 2 pigs. One pig was for the fall, while the other pig is my project for the summer. We went to the Orange County Fair where he earned Reserve Grand Champion Hog!

2. Why did you choose to join the La Habra FFA chapter your Freshman year?

  • I didn’t join the La Habra FFA chapter due to me moving here to La Habra in the summer to become a sophomore. I decided to join the FFA Chapter because I was interested in their Ag Mechanics pathway.

3. What does the blue corduroy FFA jacket mean to you?

  • At the beginning of my journey of being in FFA, I was asked this question and I didn't really know what to say. Now, being where I am today in my FFA journey, I can say that what the blue FFA jacket means to me is confidence. Before I joined this program, I wasn’t able to participate in classes or spark up conversations in public places. Now I am able to speak with anyone around me. The jacket to me is a symbol of opportunities. These opportunities have now helped me in my everyday life, from going to speaking competitions, to leadership conferences and many more. Thanks to the jacket and the organization itself, it helped me become the leader I am today.

4. In your opinion, what makes an individual a good leader?

  • I believe that anyone can be a good leader. A good leader can be someone who cares for others, someone who puts others before themselves.

5. What is your favorite quote and how does it relate to you in your leadership role?

  • “When you’re growing up, you just take what you’ve got.” - Mac DeMarco. As I said in one of the questions above, This relates to my leadership role because I took and continue to take the opportunities that are offered.

2. Why did you choose to join the La Habra FFA chapter your Freshman year?

  • I decided to join the La Habra FFA in my freshman year because it seemed fun, and in my 8th-grade year I got to meet the past officers, and they inspired me to join!

3. What does the blue corduroy FFA jacket mean to you?

  • To me, the blue corduroy FFA jacket means unity, hope, leadership, and pride, and defines who you are as a member.

4. In your opinion, what makes an individual a good leader?

  • I believe a good leader is someone who is empathetic, authentic, positive and has integrity.

5. What is your favorite quote and how does it relate to you in your leadership role?

  • My favorite quote is ¨ The first step is you have to say you can.” by Will Smith. It shows me that you can do anything if you put your mind to it! I look forward to serving you all next year!

treasurer- Kamren Horta

1. How long have you been in the program and what SAE projects have you been involved in ?

  • I have been in the program for about a year now.  My SAE is a market lamb. I have been doing this project since February. This project has taught me a lot about time management, responsibility, and  a lot in general. I love this SAE project. I think its so cool and fun to raise an animal but also a lot of responsibility.

2. Why did you choose to join the La habra FFA chapter your Freshman year?

  • I personally have always wanted to join FFA since I was about 10.  I loved seeing the animals when I would pass by La Bonita Park.  Ever since I found out more about the program in 8th I knew I wanted to join.  I always thought of joining the Ag program but didn’t know much about it. However now I know way more about the program and love it way more now!

3. What does the blue corduroy FFA jacket mean to you?

  • The blue corduroy jacket to me means a sense of unity. FFA is a community of people and wearing gives me a sense of belonging and pride. Wearing the FFA jacket shows that you are proud to be in this program, it shows honor to your chapter.

4. In your opinion, what makes an individual a good leader?

  • I believe a good leader should be able to be responsible.  A good leader should be able to provide answers or help when needed.  They should be kind and show respect to other to gain their respect.  A good leader should know how to welcome people into the program or environment in general. They should make people feel welcomed to be there.

5. What is your favorite quote and how does it relate to you in your leadership role?

  • “An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep”-Alexander the Great I love this quote because it really shows how much a leadership role can affect a team or in this case a chapter.  Although you may have a “weak” team you have a strong leader which will guide you to becoming strong.  A leader can help guide through the dark which sounds cliche but is true.

REPORTER- Ariana Vincent

1. How long have you been in the program and what SAE projects have you been involved in ?

  • This is my second year in the chapter as well as my second year raising a goat as my SAE project. I'm also a part of the goat breeding team in which I care for breeding does. I also take it upon myself to be involved frequently in our chapter's activities and competitions.

2. Why did you choose to join the La habra FFA chapter your Freshman year?

  • Growing up I always loved animals and wanted everything to do with them. Instead of cartoons and Disney shows I watched animal planet and wildlife documentaries. Going into my freshman year when I figured out raising and showing market animals was a class, I was nothing but excited and eager to join. Of course when I perused myself in the program and found myself learning more about agricultural topics I was drawn in for good, I absolutely adored every aspect of La Habra FFA.

3. What does the blue corduroy FFA jacket mean to you?

  •  When I’m wearing our FFA jacket I have a sense of belonging. FFA has quickly become a home for me in these 2 years. Everytime I step into the uniform I feel more professional, confident, and excited to do my best and represent my chapter. As an officer my wish is to be able to bring this feeling to all of our chapter members and to assure them that they have a place here at La Habra FFA for we are one big family.

4. In your opinion, what makes an individual a good leader?

  • Being a good leader takes a lot of good qualities to achieve. To me some of those qualities include being honest, social, kind, hand working, having accountability and time management skills as well as being able to solve problems quickly and efficiently. When being a leader it’s important to make sure everyone gets a say in a decision. Caring for the members in the chapter is a key part of being a successful officer as well.

5. What is your favorite quote and how does it relate to you in your leadership role?

  • The quote I chose was, "Leadership is not about being in charge. It's about taking care of those in your charge.” I believe this relates to myself and my goals as an officer the most because I plan to really connect with my chapter members. I want to assure everyone that I am always approachable with questions, comments, concerns and even if someone just needs someone to talk to, I am always willing to have a conversation!
